About TELEDerm®

The clinical lead and senior reporting clinician for TELEDerm® is Dr Tim Cunliffe, who is also the skin cancer lead for the Department of Dermatology at James Cook University NHS Hospitals, RCGP Lead for the National Accreditation of Dermatology GPwER and website author for the Primary Care Dermatology Society.

This is what Dr Cunliffe says about TELEDerm®;

Our teledermatology service allows NHS GPs or practice nurses to submit a history alongside a clinical and dermoscopic image, enabling our clinicians to provide an accurate assessment of a skin lesion.

Most assessments are reported within 24 hours, which helps reduce patient stress when compared to having to wait for an outpatient appointment.

In cases diagnosed as benign, the patient can be reassured and a referral to a specialist can be avoided.

In cases diagnosed as potentially malignant, we can advise on the likely diagnosis and whether the patient needs to be referred routinely or urgently, a decision that can be lifesaving.

In some cases, for example pre-cancerous lesions, we can also advise on treatment, further reducing the number of patients that need to be referred to a specialist.

Working with us

I enjoy my work as a part-time TELEDerm reporting clinician. I can work from home and the system is user-friendly and fast. The work is supervised by a Clinical Lead and audited at professorial level which means my diagnostic skills are constantly improving.
— Dr S. Hull, NHS GP Skin Specialist, Surrey.
